Cream Separator Components

Ever wondered what components there are in a Cream Separator????????????

The main parts that do the separating

1 The separator discs. I have 11 but only use 10.
2 Separator disc housing
3 Disc to separate any "Intruders" there might be in the milk.
4 Cover of separator disc housing.
5 Seal of disc housing.
6 Skim milk spout.
7 Cream spout.

Discs on housing with top of unit.

With the base of the milk container

The Skim milk

And the Cream
Now I have a small separator which will separate 20litres of milk in about 15 minutes. This is quick enough for me because I only separate for home use. (see my Buttermaking blog for more)
My machine is a tabletop electric model which I have mounted on an old chair base. You need to have the unit raised high enough so that you can have buckets to collect the cream and the skim underneath.
Remember, the amount of cream you will get depends on the butterfat content of your milk. This varies from cow to cow, herd to herd and breed to breed. The butterfat also varies depending on what the cows are being fed. The quality of the feed also makes a big difference.
You can usually work on approximately 1 litre of cream to 5 or 6 litres of milk.
